| Nigeria: Uduaghan And April 14
THE April 14 governorship election will play a crucial role in the political and developmental future of Delta state which is why any false step by the electorate in the state might draw it back by another decade. For this reason, it is important for the electorate in Delta state to ensure that any candidate or party without an articulated programme is not considered at all on election day. This issue has more to do with candidates vying to occupy Asaba Government House because any of them who could not provide a convincing programme before the electorate should be considered as not too good to lead the good people of Delta state come May 29.This is the truth. .

Why Mankind Not Humankind?
Gender discrimination is not a new phenomenon in Nepalese society. People take all the pre-established norms that contribute to the continuation of such inequality for granted. Men come first while the women follow them, whether it be in the social, economic, religious or even literary hierarchy. The truth is something like the widely accepted truth. Discriminatory language on the other hand is also quite a normal phenomenon. Being a highly patriarchal society, men are always granted a higher status in the literary arena also. .

Jobless claims fall, leading indicator slips
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A surprise drop in the number of new claims filed for jobless aid pointed to a healthy U.S. labor market, but a forward-looking measure of the economy showed momentum has slowed, data released on Thursday showed. Initial filings for state unemployment insurance aid fell for the third straight week and to the lowest in six weeks, dropping to 316,000 in the week ended March 17 from an upwardly revised 320,000 for the prior week, the Labor Department said. .
The Chinese are coming!
ORLANDO, Fla.The competitive cauldron that is the domestic Chinese handset market has produced a few winners. And that has fueled a desire among those winners to enter the U.S. market. The prize? Prestige, profits and brand-building that could serve long-term, global growth, according to analysts. At least two of those Chinese vendorsZTE USA Inc. and Alcatel Mobile Phones, owned by the industrial conglomerate TCL Corp.have arrived on American shores bearing handsets and grand ambitions. Grand ambitions in this context might well translate to a couple SKUs (stock keeping units) at a tier-one carrier, maybe a handful of SKUs at a handful of tier-two carriers. (ZTE, for instance, has also scored WiMAX business with Sprint Nextel Corp.) For carriers, the Chinese handset vendors may provide a source of low-cost phones, giving them leverage with larger, better-branded vendors for better deals.
FXCM: Currencies Quiet Awaiting NFP Data
Majors hugged very tight ranges in Asian and European sessions as trading was particularly quiet ahead of the US Non-Farm payroll numbers. In addition, capital markets in Europe and US are closed today for the Good Friday holiday. Therefore, given the lack of liquidity, currency trading may be even more volatile than the typical NFP Friday. In Japan today, the Leading Indicator index slipped further down to 30 from 40.9 the month prior. The index has spend the last eight months below the 50 boom/bust level but during that time has been woefully inaccurate in predicting an actual economic slowdown as Japan’s GDP expanded at a healthy 3.8% - far stronger than most analysts predicted. Nevertheless, the LEI news should not be dismissed out of hand, especially if consumer sentiment begins to waver once again.
Michigan report predicts soft growth for US economy
The U.S. economy gained more jobs in 2006 than in any year since 2000, despite a rough second half. But the pace of economic growth will pick up again after mid-year albeit moderately, say University of Michigan economists. "It's no secret that the economy didn't proceed at a smooth growth rate throughout all of last year," said Saul Hymans, U-M professor emeritus of economics. "Two important segments of the economy the vehicle market and homebuilding weakened. While we do not expect conditions in these markets to worsen a great deal more, they're likely to keep economic growth softer for awhile yet." In their annual spring forecast update of the U.S. economy, Hymans and colleagues Joan Crary and Janet Wolfe predict job gains of about 1.7 million in both 2007 and 2008, down from 2.5 million last year.
