Dems claim vote for war budget is anti-war

The Senate on March 29, by a vote of 51-47, passed a bill giving the Pentagon additional funds for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A week earlier, the House, by a vote of 218-212, had passed a similar emergency supplemental appropriations bill for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.

The Senate bill approves an additional $97.5 billion, above the regular Pentagon budget, for the two wars and colonial occupations. It also includes smaller funds for hurricane relief, agricultural aid and other domestic emergencies, adding up to a total of $123 billion.

Along with the billions for the war, the Senate bill sets a deadline for beginning the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq—120 days after the bill's passage—and a nonbinding deadline for the cessation of combat operations by March 31, 2008.

Fitch Rates Worcester, Massachusetts $10.1MM GO BANs, Series 2007 ...

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fitch Ratings assigns an 'F1+' rating to Worcester, Massachusetts's $9.1 million general obligation (GO) bond anticipation notes (BANs), series 2007A and $1 million GO BANs series 2007B. The BANs are scheduled to sell competitively on April 3. At this time, Fitch affirms the 'A' rating on the city's $599 million outstanding long-term debt and the 'F1+' on its $29 million outstanding short-term debt. The Rating Outlook is Stable.

The 'A' rating reflects Worcester's historically consistent fiscal performance, prudent financial management and budgeting, strong tax base growth, and a stable employment base anchored by higher education and health care institutions. These credit strengths are balanced by the city's above-average debt levels when pension obligation bonds are included; its below-average employment, wealth, and income levels; and recent fund balance drawdowns.

State of the City Address: Right now, Fontana is moving forward

Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, welcome to Fontana! And welcome to this year's Mayor's Gala. Thank you to all who make this event a tremendous success. This is my fifth opportunity to share our plans, our hopes, and our vision for the community for the coming year, and I have to be honest -- it gets tougher each year trying to one-up the prior year.We have already seen so many examples of the blessings that have come to Fontana, from the improvements to Miracle Mile like Costco, Home Depot, the Ralphs Shopping Center, and the Fontana Auto Center. And special congratulations to Rotolo Chevrolet; I know it was a tough road to get to Miracle Mile, but I believe Rotolo Chevrolet is but one of a handful of Chevrolet dealerships in the United States that has seen sales growth this past year, and we hope that continues for years to come.

Pauli, glamour queen of politics, stumbles

Berlin (dpa) - Just a few weeks ago, Gabriele Pauli, 49, was the rising star of German politics, emerging from the obscurity of the provinces to wreck the career of one of the nation's principal power-brokers, Bavarian Premier Edmund Stoiber.

It wasn't just that she won her daring one-woman campaign by articulately hammering away at Stoiber on national television till he announced he would resign. Germans were also mesmerized by Pauli's sex appeal.

Dressed in short skirts, heavy jewellery and thick eye-liner, the glamourous chestnut-haired conservative is the antithesis to understated Chancellor Angela Merkel, 52, who usually wears sensible trouser suits and at most a few pearls.

Now, a few short weeks later, the vamp persona has been Pauli's undoing, and her own career is in trouble because of magazine photographs that shows her in long black latex gloves associated with kinky sex, or stretching herself on a massage bench.

We have to overcome the SC order on OBCs, It's the right of the ...

The interim stay of the two judges Supreme Court bench on the implementation of the enactment by Parliament on the reservation for OBCs in government institutions of higher learning, has stirred up quite a hornet's nest. The reaction predictably has been widespread. Predictable, because the legislation had the widest support of political forces across the spectrum. In Tamil Nadu, where such reservation have been functioning for decades and with very positive results, a twelve hours bandh have been observed for expressing indignation over the order of the apex court. Almost all political parties have expressed their concern, if not, outright disapproval. At the other end of the spectrum, All India Institute of Medical Sciences – the unofficial headquarters of the anti reservation movement and the paradoxically christened "Youth for Equality" – it was celebration time.
