Solutions to hunger and corruption
Upon hearing that the Philippines ranked pretty high in terms of hunger and corruption made me think of possible solutions to the age-old problems that have been haunting our country up until now. Let us discuss hunger in this issue and corruption in next week's column… I believe the solution to hunger is "to teach our nation how to fish" and all it takes is for all those successful entrepreneurs and business experts to share their time and expertise to mentor aspiring and existing entrepreneurs. It has been our advocacy, in our own little way, to reach out to others so that they can be inspired, empowered, be more informed and gain more confidence in enhancing their business. To those who have traveled and have seen a hungry Pinoy in other countries, please let us know. To my knowledge, there has been no Pinoy that has gone hungry overseas.
Mortgage Foreclosures and Housing Bust to result in US Interest ...
A preface is in order, to honor Sir Alan Greenspan. The housing bust and the mortgage finance debacle have his signature on them. So far he is still revered, for some odd reason, probably basic ignorance. Some called Clinton the “Teflon Man" which more deservedly belongs to Greenspan. Heck, they both earned the title; they can wear it with the ignominy it so justly is associated with. GREENSPAN SIGNATURE - The current mess of mortgage defaults and foreclosures testifies to the venerable and highly acclaimed serial bubble inflation engineer Greenspan's leadership and counsel as destructive in high order. Alan must be shuddering and cringing at the extreme damage to banking balance sheets, the spate of lending institution collapses, and the contagion within banks. He urged millions of US homeowners to rush into adjustable rate mortgages, so as to reduce their monthly costs.
Historian: Housing history repeats itself
Historian and real estate attorney Harvey Oyer looks at Florida's recent housing boom and sees parallels to the 1920s, when prices soared and an army of "binder boys" flooded into the state to flip property. Oyer, chairman of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County, prepared this report comparing the boom of 2000 to 2005 with that of 1920 to 1925: History Repeats Itself: A Comparative Analysis By Harvey Oyer Over the last seven years, we witnessed almost unparalled appreciation in South Florida real estate. The only comparable period in our state's history were the years between 1920 and 1925. It might be instructive to make a quick comparative analysis of the parallels, not only as a history lesson, but also as a possible predictive model.
The Scenario- Human rights in Bangladesh
"A lot of death threats are issued. Journalists are forced to keep quiet. There is a lot of pressure on them from local persons with links to higher authorities who want journalists to keep quiet.(1) 1. Introduction Abuses against human rights defenders in Bangladesh have occurred under successive governments. This report highlights cases which have occurred under the current and previous governments in order to demonstrate the systematic failure of the state to protect human rights defenders and to prevent abuses against them. Amnesty International considers all governments to be responsible for ensuring the promotion and protection of human rights. In the same vein, Amnesty International urges the Government of Bangladesh to bring to an end a cycle of cumulative disregard for human rights in general and for abuses against human rights defenders in particular.

United States: The Economics Of Mobile Virtual Network Operators
Recent reports of the success and failure of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) have generated a great deal of media and industry interest in these wireless resellers. Virgin Mobile USA LLP is the typical success story, as it signed up over three million customers in its first 30 months of service and is currently the fastest growing mobile service provider in the US. .
State budget crisis: Opportunity for leadership
There is great angst and anxiety in Michigan today. Seems that every economic indicator one looks at is heading in the wrong direction. Home foreclosures, bankruptcies and unemployment are up, home sales (if you can sell) and personal income are down and the domestic auto industry and auto suppliers are shedding jobs like many of us wish we could peel off a few pounds. And the very jobs that we believe are our future and salvation are pulling up stakes and leaving town as well. Comerica is heading west, Chrysler may go east to China, while Pfizer's departure from Michigan has many of its employees, and local and state government officials, heading to the medicine cabinet. .
